Jungle and drum & bass came out of UK sound system culture, breakbeat hardcore and pirate radio, built by people who were already deep in soul, hip-hop and ragga before the tempo went up. It was never a studio invention — it was assembled in warehouses and on transmitters by people testing records on real floors, week after week.
Understanding that lineage is the difference between programming a drum & bass night and programming a good one. The records that endure came out of a specific set of conditions, and the DJs who came up in those conditions still read a room differently.
Choosing the right booking
For a room that wants technical weight and relentless pace, DJ Hype is the benchmark. For genuine jungle authority, DJ Brockie and Kenny Ken both carry credentials that predate the genre's mainstream moment. For range across the harder and deeper ends, DJ Rap. For sets that reward listening as much as dancing, Nookie.
For the host — and on a jungle or hardcore night the host is a large part of the draw — MC Shabba D. For a genuine headline moment with cross-generational pull, RatPack as a duo.
How booking works
Bookings run through DJ-Agency.uk, the Epidemik booking agency. Availability is checked properly before you get a quote, you get a firm price and set time within 24 hours, and the date is secured with a deposit that comes off the balance — so the artist is confirmed rather than pencilled.
